Our history

In almost a century, we have never made a single internal combustion engine. And we never will.

Unlike traditional brands that add cordless models to their core fossil fuel OPE lineups out of growing environmental awareness, Kress has been manufacturing electric motors, exclusively, for nearly a century. An icon of German engineering, it has worked alongside generations of professional users who have trusted its tools for their reliability.

The story begins in 1928 when Christian Kress founded an automobile electronics workshop. From its inception, Kress began designing and manufacturing DC and AC electric motors. At the beginning of the sixties, Kress decided to expand its production to a wider range of items. A new factory was put into operation in Bisingen, Germany, and manufacturing of a stationary machine shop began in 1964. In 1969, Kress launched a complete professional line of portable power tools.

In 1979, a new R&D center was established in Wattwil, Switzerland. The range has been further expanded with a particular focus on cordless tools. Distribution has also been strengthened to cover 60 countries through a network of specialized dealers.

2017 was a pivotal year in the history of the Kress brand, which joined the international Positec group. With an infusion of fresh capital and enhanced R&D capabilities, Kress has gone all-in on developing outdoor power equipment for discerning commercial landscapers and homeowners.

Now is the time to take a new step: ending dependence on fossil fuels.

2023 is the last major milestone in the brand's almost century-old history. Kress launches the 8-Minute Cyber System, a next-generation battery system that delivers the world's fastest charging times.
